Kingfield POPS road race returns

KINGFIELD — The third annual Kingfield POPS Kids K, 5K and 10K will take place Saturday, June 24. The registration, starting line and finish line are located at 1 Salem Road.

Participants will follow the course out of the village, past the Kingfield POPS venue and back.

Races begin at 7 a.m. and runners are asked to register on site before 6:30 a.m. Entrance fee for the 5K is $15, the 10K is $20 and the Kids K is free.

Later in the day, the 15th annual Kingfield POPS will take place at Kennedy Field. Join us for an evening of music featuring Bangor Symphony Orchestra, Sultans of String, Ghost of Paul Revere, Maine Youth Rock Orchestra, The Jason Spooner Band, Lula Wiles and Western Mountain Trashcan Band. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.

Early Bird adult tickets for the Kingfield POPS are available until May 15 for $20 at Tranten’s locations in Kingfield and Farmington; Skowhegan Saving Bank branches in Kingfield, Stratton, Phillips, Rangeley and Farmington; at Maine’s High Peaks Visitor Center in Carrabassett Valley; and at the Kingfield POPS website. After May 15, tickets are $25 or $30 at the gate. Youth 17 and under are free.

Kingfield POPS provides music and art programming for regional residents, youth and schools. The Kingfield POPS believes that a vibrant arts environment enhances quality of life and creates opportunities for economic development.

KINGFIELD – – The Kingfield POPS is pleased to announce the lineup for the our 2017 festival, taking place on June 24 at the Kennedy Farm on Route 142. The family-oriented event will offer a taste world cultures and cover a wide range of genres. Some of the finest performers from the northeastern United States and eastern Canada will provide irresistibly danceable music appealing to all ages.

In celebration of bringing 15 years of music and arts to the mountains of Western Maine we will offer a diverse program featuring past favorites and welcoming new performers. Pack a picnic and join us for what one attendee described as a 3,000 person family reunion!

As in past years, the Kingfield POPS will feature the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. You will recognize the enriching and diverse classical and modern arrangements performed by the BSO, directed and conducted by Grammy Award-winning Lucas Richman. READ MORE

POPS tickets available for holiday gift giving

KINGFIELD – – The 15th Annual Kingfield POPS will take place Saturday, June 24, 2017 and tickets are available at special Early Bird pricing just in time for holiday gift giving. The signature summer concert experience of Western Maine continues to be the Kingfield POPS featuring the Bangor Symphony Orchestra.  The performance schedule will be announced in the coming months but in past years, the Kingfield POPS has featured a phenomenal line up of musical talent and commissioned collaborations between the BSO and world-class musicians such as Jonathan Edwards, Sultans of String, Noel Paul Stookey and Dave Mallett.

Last year’s performance was truly one the more memorable events with more than 3,000 people in attendance. We are now seeking feedback from POPS attendees about their experiences, thoughts on how we did, and any suggestions for us to consider for future events. The information can be sent to us through a survey linked on the Kingfield POPS website and social media platforms. Complete the survey prior to Dec. 20 for the chance to be entered into a drawing for two tickets to the 2017 event. READ MORE

Kingfield POPS Festival of the Arts seeking vendors

The Kingfield POPS Festival of the Arts is continuing to seek artists and Artisans for an outdoor sale of original art on Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The show features fine art, food and free live music throughout the day in the center of the town of Kingfield.

Artists and artisans in all media are invited to apply. Booth space is limited so early applications are encouraged. The first fifty artisans to apply, will receive two tickets to the POPS presentation Saturday evening. The NEW deadline is May 25; exhibitors will be notified of confirmation and space assignments by June 15. Single 10×10 booths are 25.00. This event takes place rain or shine. READ MORE

The 14th annual Kingfield POPS will take place June 25 at the Kennedy Farm. In addition to the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, The Mallett Brothers Band, Dave Mallett, The Fogcutters and the Ghost of Paul Revere will bring their unique sounds to the mountains of Western Maine.

The Ghost of Paul Revere is a four member holler-folk band. Ghost’s three-part harmonies, and folk roots with country and blues influences draws fans from all over the country to catch a show. Their resume includes sharing the stage with Brown Bird, Spirit Family Reunion, Sean Hoots, and Girls, Guns and Glory. ‘North’, Ghost’s debut EP was one of the best selling local albums in Maine and New Hampshire for 2013. Their first full length album, ‘Believe’ hit the Billboard Northeast chart when it was released in 2014 and spent 10 months as the best selling local album. The band won Best in Maine at the 2014 New England Music Awards, and was an official showcase artist at Folk Alliance International 2015 and made their debut at the Newport Folk Festival in 2015. Dave Mallett will return to the POPS stage, joining the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, The Mallett Brothers Band, The Fogcutters and Ghost of Paul Revere.

Exciting collaborations between the BSO, led by Grammy Award winning conductor Lucas Richman, nationally- touring The Mallett Brothers Band and Dave Mallett are sure to please audience members. Defying any one genre, The Mallett Brothers Band shakes country, rock and Americana together for a style that is theirs alone.

Dave Mallett, the father The Mallett Brothers Band frontmen Will and Luke, has been touring the folk music circuit for more than 40 years, earning him the distinction of being named one of the most memorable ‘Mainers’ by the Bangor Daily News.

The Fogcutters is a 19-piece big band with a different perspective on classic big band sound. The Fogcutters’ contemporary jazz has been influenced by musical masters of the past and present resulting in a distinctive sound and eclectic style that is anything but traditional.

The Ghost of Paul Revere is a folk band that wows audiences with powerful three-part harmonies, energetic performances and a non-traditional way of interpreting traditional American music.

KINGFIELD — The Kingfield POPS recently recognized the Town of Kingfield for its generous support of the 2015 Kingfield POPS. Residents of Kingfield have consistently voted to support the Kingfield POPS which ensures that the tradition of bringing music to Maine’s Western Mountains continues.

Kingfield’s Administrative Assistant Leanna Targett stated, “The Kingfield POPS is vital to the growing culture of our town. Not only does the Kingfield POPS support music and arts, it supports our local businesses and boosts our economy.”
